System requirements for AUTOSIG Version 5.2
In general AUTOSIG (ATO) version 5.2 requires the following
equipment configuration:
An IBM PC, XT, AT or close compatible. ATO has been tested
on the Compaq portable, the Tandy 1xxx series and the Leading
Edge and runs fine. Other close compatibles might work, but
be sure to check the users manual for various "switches" that
might be necessary. ATO does not work on the Data General.
ATO will run on a PCjr using the internal modem if more than
320k of memory is available. See the file ATOJR.TXT in DL7
on IBMJR for further information. It work with a few flaws
on most external modems. Message downloading may result in
some missed data in files. The file downloading will work
without problems.
256k of memory is required and 320k is the minimum
recommended. It *might* run in less, but with different
memory requirements for the different versions of DOS and the
proliferation of various "terminate and stay resident"
utilities 256k is probably a minimum level. More than 256k
is definately better.
DOS 3.0 or greater is recommended. ATO will run fine on DOS
2.x systems but you may experience problems with the "Shell
to DOS feature" of ATO.
A modem capable of autodialing is required. If you're not
using a Hayes command set compatible modem you'll need to be
familar with your modem's command codes in order to set it
up.
Problems have been experienced using ATO on the Leading Edge
"Wonderful Things" internal modem and successful results are
rare. ATO is not recommended if you use this modem.
You must be calling in thru a CIS direct node, Telenet or
Tymnet. Datapac and other networks are not supported at this
time. There are some workarounds and if you're bound and
determined and don't mind some interactive logon procedures
see LOGON.ATO in DL1 for instructions on calling in thru a
non-supported network.
